Eden Sleep Out 2017

Eden Sleep Out Fundraiser

Participants braving the cold at the Eden Sleep Out event

St Petrocs Eden Sleep Out raised over £9,000 to help end street homelessness in Cornwall

St Petrocs were beneficiaries once again of the annual Sleep Out which the Eden Project run as part of the national End Youth Homelessness campaign. The campaign addresses the fact that 83,000 young people experience homelessness each year across the UK (Centrepoint 2017).

Funds raised at the Eden Sleep Out are in aid of St Petrocs and the Amber Foundation. 100 people gave up their bed for the night and braved the cold, sleeping on the ground in just a sleeping bag with a cardboard mat, raising over £9,000 for St Petrocs.

Prior to the event, residents from St Petrocs and Amber were invited to the Eden Project and had a tour of the local attraction. While there, students from Falmouth University made a film with the clients, where they shared their personal stories.

The film was shown on the night to provide a level of insight for participants. Clients’ stories expressed in the film:

“Unfortunately I was in an accident and had nowhere to live. St Petrocs offered me a room with ongoing support. I hope by the time I’m leaving to be in full time employment and to be in my own accommodation”

“A drunk driver left me jobless and homeless”
