Poem of the Week: Terry Waite

Terry Waite reads ‘Homeless’, as part of our Poem of the Week, a feature throughout the winter of 2018–19, raising awareness of our campaign to end street homelessness in Cornwall.

Terry Waite, author and president of Emmaus UK, reads his own poem ‘Homeless’ from his book Out of the Silence.

Terry Waite CBE is an English humanitarian and author. Waite was held hostage in 1987, for nearly five years, by the Islamic Jihad Organisation, when trying to negotiate the release of hostages. Waite is president of the charity Y Care International, the YMCA’s international development and relief agency; patron of AbleChildAfrica and Habitat for Humanity Great Britain; and president of Emmaus UK, a charity for formerly homeless people.

Over the winter of 2018–19 we will be sharing a different poem each week which will be read by notable figures, exploring the themes that resonate with our campaign.
